Guatemala Impact Trip with Alex Morse

Join us Feb 9th – 16th for our first ever Impact Trip! We’ll be visiting the Guatemala Nebaj Quetzaltenango program, seeing communities that are just beginning to benefit from a food security program as well as communities that have benefited from our support for the last seven years. This will be a great opportunity to see the impact we are making in the world from beginning to end!

There will also be chances to experience the rich culture of the Maya Ixil and Maya Mam peoples. In addition to meeting with the families and farmers that participate in the program, we’ll also have the chance to cook a traditional meal, learn about traditional weaving and embroidery, and attend a local church worship service.

The trip will cost $1,600 per person including airfare, meals, lodging, and transportation.

Tentative itinerary

Feb 9: Arrive in Guatemala City, Sightseeing
Feb 10 – Feb 14: Visit Communities
Feb 15: Return to Guatemala City
Feb 16: Return Flight Home

Top Three Things to Know

1. How Strenuous will this trip be?
While we will be visiting some of the more rural areas in Guatemala most walks / hikes will be 10 minutes or less. Bring good walking shoes and a walking stick if you need extra support on inclines.

2. What shots will I need?
You’ll need to talk to your health professional, but you should expect to need Hepatitis A and B shots, Tetanus, Rabies, Yellow Fever, and Typhoid vaccines. It sounds like a lot, but usually they can all be taken care of in 1-2 visits.

3. What kinds of hotels will we be staying in?
In Antigua we’ll be staying near the heart of the tourist area so we can take advantage of the scenery and restaurants in this great tourist town, during the rest of the trip we will be in clean simple rooms with hot showers and wi-fi.
