Farmers Association Helps to Ease the Burden
In Sierra Leone, Sampa has been a member of the Rogblan farmers association for the past three years. She shared, “My life as a farmer was tough before I joined the program. It was difficult to do my farming.”
Through the program implemented by Presbyterian Church (USA) with local partner Village to Village Federation, Sampa participated in training on improved farming methods. In addition, she received tools, vegetable seeds and tree seedlings to help her improve her farm.
As a member of the Rogblan farmers association, Sampa also had the opportunity to use the group’s storage facility for her harvest, helping her to prevent the post-harvest losses many farmers face due to pests or mold.
Sampa said, “It is still tough, but not like it was before. Now it is easier because of the help and support I received. Now my family can prepare food even in the lean season. The training I received helped me grow and cook good food for my family and myself and we are healthier than before. We spend less money on medicine, and the children go to school all the time. My life is much better than before I joined the program.”
