Transformation in the Field, Home and Community
Wilfredo and Aleyda’s participation in the “We Are Resilient” program has transformed their family, agricultural production and community life.
Since joining the program, the family has established themselves as local promoters, replicating in their community the practices they learned in the Farmer Field School. The adoption of these principles has revitalized their plots, allowing them to nearly double their bean production.
“Before, the land was tired and the harvest was scarce. Today we see clear improvements in the productivity of corn and beans, and that means more food and security for our family,” said Wilfredo.
The couple has also joined a community savings group. They gather every two weeks and have managed to save around 15,000 Córdobas ($408) per cycle and also contribute to the emergency fund to support families in difficult situations. These savings strengthen their economic security and allow them to invest in new opportunities. Aleyda used some of her savings to start a small business buying and selling clothes, while Wilfredo used his for agricultural inputs to improve their bean production.
“Knowing that we are not alone and that we have the support of our community gives us peace of mind and motivates us to continue participating,” says Aleyda.
Participation in the Women’s Support Group and the Constructive Masculinities Group has strengthened the couple’s relationship. Today, Wilfredo and Aleyda dialogue with greater confidence, make joint decisions and demonstrate values of respect, responsibility and solidarity for their son.
“Now we know how to listen to and support each other. This makes us stronger and allows us to make decisions together, including about our son’s education and values,” Wilfredo reflects.
The family was recently recognized with a certificate for their perseverance and commitment. They have renewed pride, unity and hope. They demonstrate that change happens in the field, but also at home and in the community, where working together brings lasting transformation.
