Program Summary

The project aims to enhance the resilience and livelihoods of small-scale herders by improving livestock productivity and health, promoting sustainable management practices, and creating new income-generating opportunities. It addresses challenges such as accessing veterinary services, ensuring feed availability and quality, and improving dairy product production and market access. Each of the 3 years, the project will work in designated communities within the Tubas Governorate.

Success Stories

A Healthy Flock and a Happy Herdsman

Izzat has transformed his livelihood through the Palestine Tubas program. He owns sixty sheep, which serve as the sole source of income for his family of six. His flock was previously impacted by high mortality rates among newborn lambs.

“Before the project,” Izzat recounts,”I relied on traditional methods for feeding and caring for newborn lambs. As a result, I faced high mortality rates, sometimes reaching up to 20%, primarily due to diseases like diarrhea. This not only meant losing valuable livestock but also incurring significant expenses on treatment and preventive care.”

Through the project, Izzat received essential tools and supplies for newborn lamb care, along with 125KG of powdered milk. He also participated in specialized training sessions led by expert trainers and technicians. “The project didn’t just give us resources; they showed us how to use them effectively,” Izzat emphasizes.

When Izzat used the resources he’d been given and implemented the recommended guidelines and best practices he’d learned from the program, the results were remarkable. “I successfully reduced the mortality rate of newborn lambs on my farm by at least 80%! I also increased my profits from milk sales by 20% and noticed a significant improvement in the overall health of my lambs this season compared to previous years. Now, I am able to wean them at two months of age instead of three, as I used to before.”

Encouraged by his success, Izzat urges all farmers to embrace these healthy practices and techniques. “Transform your small-scale business into a highly profitable one by adopting this new knowledge!”

Izzat’s transformation underscores the program’s impact on improving animal health, enhancing productivity, and fostering sustainable livelihoods among vulnerable herding communities. By promoting modern techniques and providing essential resources, the program is empowering herders like Izzat to thrive and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
