Program Summary
This program takes place in the Muheza and Same Districts in northeastern Tanzania, strategically positioned within the spice-producing corridor that extends from the Pare Mountains to the coastal plains. The program supports youth-led spice value chain development with a focus on ginger, cardamom, and black pepper. It builds on the success of the youth engagement model that was central to the Growing Hope Globally funded program implemented by Catholic Relief Services in Mbeya District from 2021-2025.
The program integrates youth as change agents in spice production, processing, and marketing while addressing the aging farmer demographic in Tanzania’s spice sector. Key activities include establishing spice-focused demonstration plots, convening Savings and Internal Lending Communities for spice enterprises, piloting Quality Declared Seed production for spice crops, and creating youth service teams to support aging spice farmers.
